Tonight, March 20, 2025, at Denver’s Hi-Dive, Midwife (Madeline Johnston) and Vyva Melinkolya (Angel Diaz) will perform their collaborative album, Orbweaving, live in its entirety for the first time. This special performance serves as a preview of their upcoming set at Roadburn 2025, where Johnston has been named an Artist in Residence.
Midwife at Roadburn 2025
Madeline Johnston first performed at Roadburn in 2022, delivering an emotionally charged set that left a lasting impact on the festival’s audience. Her ethereal yet heavy fusion of slowcore, shoegaze, and metal—what she calls “heaven metal”—offers listeners an immersive experience of catharsis and introspection.
At Roadburn 2025, Johnston’s residency will feature three unique performances:
- A full performance of Orbweaving with Vyva Melinkolya, marking the album’s long-awaited live debut.
- A full-band rendition of No Depression in Heaven, featuring additional musicians, including members of Thou.
- A curated set spanning her releases from 2017 to 2020, offering a retrospective of her work.
Reflecting on her Roadburn experience, Johnston shared:
“Of her upcoming residency at Roadburn, Madeline comments: “My first time at Roadburn was a pivotal and deeply meaningful experience. Performing alongside all of the bands I greatly looked up to, and finally being able to see my artistry on their level, as a peer, helped me reach an epiphany: that I am one of the bands. It sounds simple, but that was a huge moment in my career. I greatly look forward to what new epiphanies my upcoming residency will unlock. Roadburn is so much more than a festival. It is an honor to be Roadburn’s artist in Residence.” -MJ
I promise to be good
I promise to be good
I promise to be kind
I promise to be kind
And when I see it
And when I’m near it
It’s so perfect
No more pain
No more pain
