NOT EVERYONE GETS TO HIDE!
Chat Pile's unrelenting sophomore album, Cool World, was released one year ago today via The Flenser.
Vocalist Raygun Busch, bassist Stin, guitarist Cap'n Ron, and drummer Luther Manhole have been battling sociopolitical demons from their Oklahoma headquarters since 2019. Picking up where their 2022 debut, God's Country, left off, Cool World dives even deeper into the darkest parts of post-modernity.
Cool World deals with violence in its many forms, from war to trafficking to voyeurism and beyond. The band issue chilling critique amidst their signature soundscape of guttural wails and chugging basslines, lurching ever-forward into the void. As Busch notes in track "Shame," "all tears flow from the same source."
STIN REFLECTS:
During every interview we did leading up to the release of Cool World, someone would inevitably ask whether we felt any pressure trying to follow up the success of God's Country. As hard as it might be to believe, we never really thought too much about what people expected from us - we just put our heads down and made the album we wanted to make in the isolation of Dust House, our dilapidated backyard practice space.
Critics like to pigeonhole our music as soul crushing, Swans-esque dirge but I promise that our intent is to simply rock. I think Cool World leans into this by having a more direct approach to the song writing - I think everyone in the band would agree that Cool World songs are the most fun to play live.Funny Man is my favorite song of ours so far - It's probably as close as we'll ever get to writing a tight alt metal anthem in the vein of Thunderkiss '65 or My Name is Mud or something like that. It also has the best Chat Pile breakdown!
A DELUSION OF PINK AND RED...
Chat Pile is a band of courage, pushing boldly against the pulverizing forces of daily life with wit and rocking energy. One year later, Cool World feels even more relevant, serving as both an artistic achievement and an urgent warning.
