The fourth Jesus Lizard album, 1994's Down was also the last of their albums to be produced by Steve Albini. Here the band's ear for arrangement reached its peak, and there's a heightened sense of sophistication in terms of how the instruments interact. The Jesus Lizard still sound manic at full pelt though, meaning they're no less fearsome a band than was heard on those scrappier earlier works - the guitars bite with a trebly menace and David Yow's wildly unhinged frontman persona remains untamed.
